With Dad and Trent after the Grilled Cheese Contest.
October Curly W! Nats beat Brewers to win their first postseason elimination game. Scherzer v Woodruff. Scherzer goes 5.0IP with 4H, 3ER, & 6K. Max gives up a lead off walk and a 2 run HR to second batter of the game, Grandal, then a lead off HR to Thames in the 2nd. Trea gets one back with a 2 out solo HR in the 3rd. Other than that Nats’ bats go cold until the 8th. Strasburg pitches 3 lock down innings in relief, with 4K and only giving up 2H. Josh Hader comes in for an 8 out save. Robles strikes out. Hader hits Michael A. Taylor on a 3-2 pitch. Brewers make a load of tomfoolery, arguing that the ball hit the knob of Taylor’s bat before hitting him. Challenge upholds the HBP. Turner strikes out for the 2nd out. Ryan Zimmerman pinch hits for Eaton. Gets a broken bat bloop single to fall into center field. Rendon works a 2 out walk on a full count to load the bases for Juan Soto. Soto hits a 1-1 pitch to right field, scoring Taylor and Stevenson (pinch running for Zim) BUT RF Trent Grisham makes an error, letting the ball get by him and allowing Rendon to score from first. Soto is thrown out in between 2nd and 3rd but no one cares, Nats Park goes insane. Nats were dead in the water all night, and take the lead in the blink of an eye. Hudson comes in and gets the save in the top of the 9th (strikeout, pop up to Suzuki, single, deep fly out to Robles) to send the Nats to LA for the NLDS.
Final game of a legendary 46 year career for Marty Brennaman.
Soto’s hit, stras saving the day, pull scherzer after first pitch. Raucous crowd.
