Gwinnett had the finale under control using only relievers until they found one who couldn't throw strikes. Corbin Clouse, Arodys Vizcaino, Jose Ramirez and Kelvin Vasquez combined for 6.0 scoreless innings before Phillip Pfeiffer hit one and walked four in 0.2 innings. Austin Riley went 2/4. For the Knights, Jake Elmore went 2/4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB while Patrick Leonard went 1/4, 3 RBI, 1 BB. Starter Jordan Stephens got the win (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). Jhoan Quijada, Tyler Watson and Gregory Infante each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Ranks up there with one by Kris Medlin years ago as the best pitched game I've seen at Coolray Field. Jeremy Walker, in his first game higher than High A threw 8.0 innings of scoreless ball, allowing 3 hits, walking one and striking out six. Chad Sobotka pitched a perfect 9th for the save. Xavier Avery was the offensive hero (2/4, 1 2B, 2 RBI); Alex Jackson (2/3, 2 2B, 2 R) and Sean Kazmar (2/3) contributed. Charlotte starter Spencer Adams from Cleveland, GA was great (7.0 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K), Charlotte only had three hits.
